Alborz mountain range in the middle of winter is include some ice waterfalls (natural & artificial) suitable for ice climbing. some of the ice waterfalls are Nava (about 120m) - Khor (include 3 to 5 waterfall) and Meigoon Ice climbing school. Nava waterfall is located in Mazandaran province accessible via Haraz road about 2hors driving from Tehran and 1hour hiking frim the village Nava. Khor Waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls close to Tehran. It is located along the rout of Karaj to Chalus and in 17km of this road. The height is approximately 50meters. The waterfall flows from a river originated from Pahneh Hesar peak. Meigoon Ice climbing school is a nice place for ice climbing located in 40km north of Tehran in Meigoon Area.

Itinerary

  • Day 1:  Arrival

    Meet at the airport. Drive to the Khor village about 3 hours. hiking 45min and visit the ice waterfall. some training and technique review and some short climbing for warming up.

  • Day 2:  Climbing Khor waterfall

    after breakfast 45 min hiking to the village and full day climbing in the area. going back to the village.

  • Day 3:  Hameloon ice clibing school

    After early breakfast driving to Tehran and Hameloon area about 3 hours. go direct to the ice climbing school and full day ice climbing.

  • Day 4:  Nava Waterfall

    after breakfast driving to the Nava village about 3 hours. hiking 1 hour to the waterfall. full day climbing in the area. drive to Reineh village 30min and overnight in Reineh.

  • Day 5:  Hot springs village

    After breakfast visit Kafarkeli historical caves near the village. drive 20min to the hot springs village. swim and relaxing in the pools. drive to Tehran and departure.

Ice climbing CHECKLIST: Two pairs of gloves (mid weight five finger and down insulated) -Warm socks-Merino leggings (warm) -Fleece leggings -Warm Merino base layer tops -Fleece or synthetic mid layer -heavy down jacket -Gore-tex jacket -Gore-tex pants -Sun glasses -45L Alpine pack (ice axe attachment, Ski carry system) -70-100L Expedition duffle (for use up to base camp) - poles -3 season sleeping bag -Sleeping mattress (we will have blanket in local houses and light matt in the huts) -Flask -Bottle (Nalgene) -Hydration system.
